ABOUT RIAD ALENA

One curving, quiet alleyway away from the colourful commotion of Marrakesh’s Medina sits Riad Alena - a house that has had many transitions and whose walls have witnessed many lives. In 2021, the Riad entered a new chapter when Louis Devereux decided to transform its interior into a home from home for others. The Riad received a full renovation, transforming the space into a boutique hotel that invites guests to settle in and feel at home.

ABOUT RAAR

As an extension of its ethos of hospitality, the Riad Alena Artist Residency (RAAR) was launched at the start of 2024 under the curatorial theme Home from Home. The programme invites international and local artists, curators and creative practitioners to engage with the rich cultural landscape of Marrakesh, using the riad as both a base and a source of inspiration for their creative practice.

Since 2024, RAAR has collaborated with 1:54 Art Fair as part of its extended programme. Over a weekend at the start of the year, the fair’s guests are invited into the Riad to discover the work of RAAR’s guest artists.

ABOUT RIPPLES

Grounded in the belief that culture thrives through a ripple effect —where ideas and experiences are exchanged between people and places—the residency is complemented by a series of RIPPLES . This curatorial framework serves as a platform for hosting cultural events and exhibitions within the Riad, fostering dialogue and creative exchange that resonates beyond its walls. The RIPPLES programme is in its early stages but has already seen the Riad host exhibitions, listening sessions, concerts and intimate dinner experiences.
